Common challenges with strawberries

Global strawberry production is over 10 million tonnes a year and China is the world’s leading producer (40%), with the USA in second place. Strawberries belong to the Rosaceae (Rose) family, which also includes apples, peaches, and cherries. They are the only fruit that has seeds on the outside. They are a good source of Vitamin C (more than oranges), manganese, folate, and potassium. While self-fertile, strawberries rely on bees for optimal pollination.

  • Pollination issues
  • Heat stress and root disease

General application recommendations

All recommendations are based on field experience and trial results worldwide. Genetics by environment (G X E) must be considered in all applications as this has an impact on plant growth and production. Please contact your local supplier/advisor for additional technical assistance. Each recommendation should be adapted to local conditions and/or optimised depending on crop varieties, soil, environment and fertilisation programs.
