Common challenges with wine grapes

Unlike table grapes, wine grapes are smaller, thicker-skinned, and often have seeds to enhance tannin content, which contributes to the flavor and aging potential of wine. The oldest known living wine-producing grapevine is found in Maribor, Slovenia. This Stara Trta vine is believed to be over 400 years old and still produces grapes that are harvested each year. If each of the 8 billion people on Earth were to receive an equal share of the 51 million tons global production, it would amount to about 4.1 pounds of wine grapes per person, enough to craft a small bottle of wine for each individual.

General application recommendations

All recommendations are based on field experience and trial results worldwide. Genetics by environment (G X E) must be considered in all applications as this has an impact on plant growth and production. Please contact your local supplier/advisor for additional technical assistance. Each recommendation should be adapted to local conditions and/or optimized depending on crop varieties, soil, environment, and fertilization programs.
